The stories in Flower Fables are excellent. However, for young children (age 3-5), you really need to include some type of picture on each page. Amazon sells about a dozen versions of the hardback of this book, and color pictures are sadly lacking in most of them. I checked out at least 3 versions from the library before settling on the one I am buying.

If you’re going to purchase Flower Fables, my recommendation is the version published in 1998 and illustated by Leah Palmer Preiss. She features full page color illustrations every 3-4 pages, and nearly every page includes some type of color. The introduction is abridged to fit on one page, but the text of the fables appears intact.

Note that Amazon’s “Look Inside” feature shows the same book interior regardless of which printing you are ordering.

This discovery of unpublished fables by Louisa May Alcott should be read by children during their important impressionable years. The illustrations are beautiful and complimentary to the text. While classics of Louisa May Alcott, Little Women and Little Men, are for the early teens, these fables for the preteens tease the imagination in a magical way. This sort of alternative to the upbringing of children by the video media is sorely needed and provided by Flower Fables.

I have lived in AZ and been to the native lands of many of the tribes. This book was fine with not giving away too much into their customs.

Just an okay read… – J. Kaye –
D. Anne–nickname Annie–Morrow, a renowned archeologist, art historian, and professional artifact authenticator is under suspicion of the bombing and thief of an England museum. This isn’t the first time something like this happened. Only a few months prior, a bomb went off at another museum where Dr. Annie had been only a few hours before. Again, priceless artifacts were stolen.

CIA operative Captain Kendall “Pete” Peterson goes undercover as Pete Taylor to act bodyguard when death threats are issued on Dr. Annie. He’s hoping to catch a thief, but ends up losing his heart in this romance/suspense story.

This was my first experience with Suzanne Brockmann and if I were to read more of her books, I’d pick up one that wasn’t a reissue. This was originally published in 1994 and has a mechanical style to delivering the background information. Much of the information was hard to believe and that’s what turned me off most. Even though there was magic between Pete and Annie, I felt their realization for love and then marriage too rushed. The story was just okay for me.

Not one of her better efforts. Obviously one of her older books. Not nearly as intense as her Navy Seal stories. A light read.

Morrow begins recieving death threats and has a rock thrown through her window with a death threat tied to it. The CIA sends an undercover into
her office to be a bodyguard. His name if Pete Taylor. He is to guard Dr.
Morrow as well as investigate her. He has his hands full. She does not want a bodyguard and wants Taylor gone. He finally wins out. She does not
take the death threats seriously. She discovers that the mask is worth
killing over.Annie finaly realizes that it is good to have Taylor around.
The book finally comes to a conclusion.

Red-haired orphan Anne Shirley has been married to Doctor Gilbert Blythe for fifteen wonderful years; they and their six children and unique maid of all work Susan Baker live in the house called Ingleside, in the village of Glen St. Mary on Prince Edward Island.

As the story opens, Gilbert and Anne, just returned from Europe, reassemble their family at Ingliside. Mrs. Marshall Elliot delivers the latest gossip to Anne, including the news that the preacher’s manse is newly occupied by absent-minded widower Reverend John Meredith, his four children, and an aging housekeeper.

In the wooded play space they call Rainbow Valley, the adolescent Blythe and Meredith children are quick to bond and as quick to get involved in escapades together. The four Meredith children, who are raising themselves, are forever offending local sensibilities; the Blythes will try to help.

“Rainbow Valley” is a change of pace in the “Anne” series, as Anne and Gilbert step into the background to allow Montgomery to work her considerable narrative magic with the Blythe and Meredith children. The principal drama will be the effort by many hands to remarry Reverend Meredith to a suitable woman who can mother his children. In the end, the meekest Meredith child will make the quietly heroic sacrifice that saves the day.

“Rainbow Valley” is highly entertaining and highly recommended to “Anne” fans.

Disappointing – Susan B. Evans – Rosenberg, TX USA
Rainbow Valley is the seventh book in L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables series. It could almost be a stand-alone novel as there is very little of Anne, Gilbert, or their children. If you can get past the disappointment of not seeing very much of the Blythe’s then you might enjoy Rainbow Valley. The story revolves around the Meredith’s, the four children of a widowed Presbyterian minister. Anne and Gilbert’s children play small parts, mostly in the background of the story.

Although the Meredith children certainly can be described as unusual, I didn’t find anything particularly interesting about them. I’m afraid that L.M. Montgomery simply ran out of unique characters by the seventh book. I feel let down that the series has turned so far away from Anne. It makes me wonder if Montgomery believed that our adventures end when we grow up and get married. A spirited woman like Anne would definitely continue to grow and evolve as a person.

Taken outside of the series, Rainbow Valley is a beautifully written story – with the same graceful turns of phrase as the rest of the series, and full of drama and comedy. But when judged against it’s predecessors it is a disappointment – with lackluster characters and a flat plot line. Quite uninteresting.

This novel is one of the best of the “Anne” series. The plot moves, the characters are well portrayed, and romance keeps the suspense up and the reader engrossed. It is so wonderful to read something written about the turn of the century that isn’t full of the filth of so much of today’s fiction.

Selena Kitt is truly a superb erotic writer–the way she sets up each scene and teases the erotic thrill from every action is incredible. Like Babysitting the Baumgartners this is another coming-of-age story that runs the gamut of sexual pleasure and awakening, but this one has a little different theme and twist–with catholic schoolgirls, older men, priests, confessions, short plaid skirts, white unbuttony blouses and knee socks, you just know this whole thing could be a cliche, but with Selena Kitt, it isn’t. She’s developed a story line that is well thought out, believable and written with an intensity that just keeps you coming back for more. The story has a great pace and excitement. It’s not just the sexuality and powerfully descriptive prose that define her stories. She has a way of conveying true emotions and thoughts that make her stories believable and sensual. And of course, incredibly HOT.

To the naysayer who hated the ending – I love a happy ending as much as anyone else, but to me, the ending seemed fitting, a final, sudden, (and I agree, shocking!) repentance for all the wicked sinning that had been going on, so to speak. These were CATHOLIC school girls, after all. In a true Southern gothic style, I thought the ending was perfection, although I hear Kitt is planning to release a sequel to this one at the beginning of 2011, so maybe you’ll get your happy ending after all?

Kitt does a fantastic job of pushing boundries & breaking taboos. If you like the twisted & sick then this is for you.

However for myself I found this a little too confronting, I tended to glide over the father/daughter scenes even though I enjoyed the other bits. The end was a twist & as a novel that was interesting.

This is adult fantasy erotica. A big emphasis on FANTASY…as in make believe, dont try at home.

Good…and uneasy – Marti Harmon – Terre Haute, IN
Okay…first of all, the vision of the author is well defined for such a short story. Coming of age and incest sounds gross in theory, but a lot of girls and boys idolize someone close and important in their young lives and it’s up to the adult to rectify that in a gentle matter – IF it were to come to that. For most, that simple infatuation comes and goes without a fleeting thought, you know, “my Dad’s the bestest” type of emotion.

This is what happens when an adult is just as overcome with the same emotion. Be prepared for taboo. If you can’t think outside the box…this one’s not for you. I don’t really want to say too much more. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but I will agree with one review.

Taboo, I can deal with and wrap my mind around. The crushing horror of one the main characters and then abrupt ending, well, I just felt sad as I powered down my kindle. All in all, just a sad coming of age story. Just sad.

Not at all like my Catholic school girl upbringing. This book is so HOT! It has everything in this coming of age story; threesome, F/F, older man – younger girl, toys. I’m woman enough to admit this old tale got me a bit teary-eyed. But isn’t that the sign of a good book, when you come to care so much about fictional characters?

It’s the very beginning of World War I, before America enters the fighting. Sara Lee Kennedy is a young Pennsylvanian woman whose life is already planned out by society, if not herself. She’s engaged to marry Harvey soon, and settle down to a drawn out life of having babies and dying old. But something’s happening to Sara Lee. As she and her church society pull together to sends funds and supplies to the beleaguered Belgians, Sara Lee feels the call to do something more. She actually wants to go over to the front lines and open a soup kitchen, a haven for the poor soldiers to have something to eat, a cup of coffee and a dry place to rest for a moment. Of course Harvey is totally set against this. Let the foreigners take care of themselves is his opinion. But Sara Lee has the backbone to defy convention and travels by herself to England.

While there she meets Henri, a Belgian spy who constantly risks his life to gather important tactical information for his country. He aids Sara Lee into smuggling herself into Calais, a city under martial law and right next door to the front. With Henri and others’ help, Sara Lee takes over an abandoned, bombed out house and begins her life-fulfilling work.

Henri finally confesses he’s fallen in love with Sara Lee, but she’s a real enough character to question her own feelings. She loves Henri, but is she IN love with him? And what about Harvey, who’s constantly badgering her in letters to come home. She loves him, doesn’t she? She’s made a solemn promise to return and marry him, she can’t go back on that.

Who will Sara Lee chose? Will she even survive the war TO chose? You’ll have to read the book to find out.

I got this collection, started reading the first book, and finished the whole thing. At first I was annoyed with some formatting issues, and I wish they had put the books in a better order, but for 99 cents — this was the best deal I’ve had in reading in a long time. I had not read any of these books before (and I’ve read a fair amount of her works, but I guess from a later period). They were all just delightful. This is leisure reading at its best. I cannot say I am improved by having finished them all, but God bless the good storyteller. It sure beats television.

For 99 cents what a great way to get 12 of Andre Norton’s books. I won’t read them all- I only like her SF but it’s great reading the Time Trader books that I haven’t read in the series.

What a nice treat !! Nothing here I didn’t already own from Norton. But all in one place, search-able and on my Kindle. These are stories that have real depth, real character development and plots that will engage. I recommend this book.

Excellent book with a lot of general information, and choice specific information. The book was obviously written for the average MR2 owner wanting to increase the performance of their MR2, while also learning a lot of new information (I never knew 93 turbo hardtop MR2s were so rare, nor that the best way to differentiate early 4A-GEs is not by the color of the lettering on the valve color, but by the number of ribs on the block.) While the book does focus on the MkII, there is more than enough general MR2 information to make this a worthwhile purchase for anyone interested in MR2s–or sports cars in general–whether you own one or not.

Emphasis was made on the Gen II Turbo models, but there’s plenty of information for all generations of the MR2.
